MOUNT SHASTA // CASAVAL RIDGE

Elevation: 14,179' // Trip Length 2 DAYS

Casaval Ridge is in a league all on it’s own and is primarily climbed in the early to late spring depending on conditions. Casaval Ridge is a step up from both Avalanche Gulch and the West Face as far as technical climbing is concerned and reaches slopes as steep as 45-50 degrees depending on conditions. Casaval Ridge will challenge even the most accomplished mountaineers and is only recommended if you have previously climbed either Avalanche Gulch or the West Face of Mount Shasta. A spectacular climb and one that will surely get your adrenaline pumping, especially as you climb through the exposed “Catwalk” higher up on the route, this climb can only be done in early season conditions due to rockfall that can occur as temperatures begin to warm up. Casaval Ridge is typically climbed in a 2 Day Light and Fast Mountaineering Program due to the nature of the route and the descent that takes you down Avalanche Gulch or the West Face.
