BACKCOUNTRY RESOURCES

GOLDEN STATE GUIDING IS A PROUD SUPPORTER OF THE EASTERN SIERRA AVALANCHE CENTER, PROTECT OUR WINTERS,

AND THE TAHOE BACKCOUNTRY SAFETY AWARENESS WEEK

It’s time to wax and tune those skis and splits, put some fresh batteries in the beacons, brush up on those rescue skills, and start tapping into those backcountry resources because the 2023/24 snow season is right around the corner! There’s been a large shift towards backcountry skiing and splitboarding in recent years so we felt it necessary to create a short, and to the point, resource page for our fellow backcountry travelers.

Below you’ll find the Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center, Sierra Avalanche Center, Shasta Avalanche Center, and Bridgeport Avalanche Center websites, as well as the popular weather forecast sites Tropical Tidbits, Snow Brains, Windy and NOAA. We’ve also added a link to the Tahoe Backcountry Awareness Week which has endless backcountry literature and resources for your viewing pleasure. And lastly, we provided links to CalTopo and Gaia, some of our favorite mapping programs to use while creating trip plans for the backcountry. Whether you’re new to the backcountry or a seasoned shredder, these resources are something every skier and splitboarder should be familiar with and should be referencing throughout the season.

We’ll be continually updating this page throughout the 2023/24 snow season so check back frequently to keep up to speed with all the latest backcountry info and resources. Enjoy!
