Tahquitz and Suicide Rock in Idyllwild are premier Southern California destinations for traditional and multi-pitch rock climbing. Tahquitz is celebrated for its historic Yosemite-style routes, long granite faces, cracks, and committing slab climbing; nearby Suicide Rock offers excellent single- and multi-pitch objectives. Moderate classics such as The Trough (5.4) can provide an introduction to traditional multi-pitch climbing, while experienced climbers can choose from a wide range of more demanding routes. At roughly 5,400 feet, the area is typically best from spring through fall, with conditions varying by elevation and weather.
