The first round of participants of 2018 for the Gym 2 Crag program finished up their course this past weekend at the local crag Mission Gorge. Temps were perfect, stoke was high and everyone left the program feeling confident in their knots and hitches, anchor systems, rappelling practices and overall climbing abilities. BIG thanks to everyone who came out and kicked off the year with us, we couldn't be more pleased with your progress! Special thanks to our partner Vertical Hold Climbing Gym and GSG guides Tyler Dandurand, Lauren Breitenbach and Tim Sweet for making this a success. Lauren Breitenbach Joins GSG Guide Family
Golden State Guiding is proud to announce the latest addition to the GSG Guide Family, Lauren Breitenbach. Lauren's been guiding in the Sierra professionally since 2015 and more recently achieved her SPI certification with the AMGA (American Mountain Guide Association) this past fall. Lauren is a Wilderness First Responder, co-founder of Aret Basewear, and a graduate of San Diego State University with a B.S. in Environmental Engineering. GSG Ambassador Shane McNichol's been keeping busy with his recent move to Las Vegas. From nearly on-sighting the Original Route on the Rainbow Wall (weather was the only thing holding him and GSG Ambassador Orion Feist from completing the route) to a recent on-sight of Levitation 29, Shane's been taking full advantage of this beautiful vertical landscape in his backyard. No Man's Land Film Festival
Golden State Guiding is proud to be an official sponsor of the San Diego screening of No Man’s Land. Our partner Vertical Hold is teaming up with No Man's Land Film Festival for a night celebrating female mountain athletes and filmmakers in the outdoor industry (all ages and genders welcome!). The event will be held on Tuesday, December 12, at Balboa Park’s Natural History Museum. Doors open at 6:00 pm with a vendor village featuring San Diego’s thriving adventure small business scene, including Golden State Guiding, Arêt Basewear, Static Climbing, Voodoo Climbing, Be Outfitter and Rove Adventure Shop. Film programming begins at 7:00 pm, featuring the stories of female rock climbers, alpinists, skiers, mountain bikers, adaptive athletes and more.

Bears Ears & Grand Staircase-Escalante Update
Politics are a slippery slope but it’s important to stand up for what you believe in. Golden State Guiding introduces people to the outdoors in a unique and special way through climbing which in turn creates greater advocacy for the places we love so much. Preservation of our lands for future generations should be our #1 priority. Yesterday president Trump signed two proclamations reducing the size of Bears Ears National Monument by more than 80% and Grand Staircase-Escalante Monument by close to 50%. Removing protections of these lands to sell to private interests will only benefit greedy corporations and destroy these natural places. GSG guide Allison Terray facilitated another fun day in the park and took graduates from our G2C and Advanced G2C program up various multi-pitch routes throughout the park. Gym to Crag with the American Alpine Club & Golden State Guiding
Great day out at Descanso guest guiding with the @sandiegochapter_aac. Students today were enrolled in the Gym 2 Crag program where they learned how to clean an anchor and rappel as well as build top rope anchors. Crag etiquette was discussed which involved "leave no trace" discussions and overall common cutesy. High stoke levels out there today, great job American Alpine Club!

Hayden Kennedy & Inge Perkins
If you're connected to the climbing world than you already know our community lost two incredible humans over this past weekend. It's with heavy hearts we share the news that Hayden Kennedy and Inge Perkins have passed. Although we'd never crossed paths with either, its worth sharing this story to remind the community of just how special these two were and how precious life is. Hayden was a remarkably gifted alpinist with first ascents all over the world, one worth noting was the first ascent of the South Face of the Ogre (7,285 meters) with partners Kyle Dempster and Josh Wharton (1st photo). Judging by his interviews on multiple @enormocast episodes you could tell Hayden was full of life and a good person to be around. Inge Perkins, Hayden's partner, was an accomplished ski mountaineer and a rising star in the rock climbing world who had a thirst for life. Your love for life and commitment to inspiring our community will never be forgotten. Thank you for all that you did. May you both rest in piece in the mountains above🙏🏻 #haydenkennedyforever #haydenkennedy
